Yup, it happens. Don't worry. If the person on the other end does so, it's because, upon reading your words and divining your motive, their heart has been gripped by an iron hand, and their breath is caught within their gullet, so that they are panting for air. Then they can't stop thinking about it for days and nights, and guiltily turn their face and hurry away from the computer. After a time of willful self-repression, they sneak into their chat on invisible mode, hoping beyond hope that you are online, and if you are, signing out immediately, sometimes even shutting down the computer, to avoid the overwhelming temptation to write you a rapturous torrent of lines. After a month or so of this, the panting, gripping, pee-your-pants sensation abates and wanes slightly, especially since they have, in truth though not in heart, been villainously avoiding you, cutting you down, and attempting at all costs to hide their feelings for you, which often leads to your bewilderment, delusion, and decision to drop her.
Persist, my man! If you want her feelings to abate, ignore her and treat her casually. If you would much rather have her wilting in your arms eventually, keep plugging away at it. Don't chase her best friend in hopes that she'll jealously make a grab for you. She won't and it'll hurt you both in the end. If you truly feel the way you do, help her overcome her senseless fears by showing her, in the little things you say and do, that you still love her, and will wait until she is ready. Love begets love, and there's no shame in loving, or in being loved.
